Bruno’s Story

I was one of a litter, tri-coloured, with ears the colour of black tea and toffee, gambling away with my doggy siblings; then one day my Mummy came to see us but I don’t think she knew she was my Mummy yet!

I did! I got up, went straight over to her, put my nose to her face and gave her a kiss and well we can safely say that was pretty much that. 🐾

There were probably sensible things she was supposed to think about before choosing a puppy but when you know you know and I’d already chosen.

She knew she couldn’t leave me behind, so I went home and became part of the family.

I was actually a secret for a little while because Daddy and my hooman brother didn’t know I was coming –  ta da…

Surprise! 😂 and I’ve been making my presence known ever since.

I take welcoming people home VERY seriously; it doesn’t particularly matter whether you’ve been away all day or approximately seven minutes, a proper welcome is required.

I get down low, I roll around, I make an enormous fuss and Daddy inevitably ends up bent double laughing and giving me a kiss and this is pretty much exactly as it should be.

Being part of my family isn’t only about making them laugh, I’m there for the ordinary days too. I get everyone outside, I make sure walks happen, I’m there for cuddles, company and those moments when sometimes just having your dog beside you is exactly what you need.

I’ve even discovered I’m rather good at getting my family talking, check me out!

They’re not necessarily a family who sit down and announce that they’re going to have a big conversation, but take me for a walk, have me lying nearby or start absent-mindedly stroking my ears and somehow the talking happens all by itself.

Clever, aren’t I?

I didn’t know any of this when I was that little puppy sitting with my brothers and sisters, I just saw my Mummy and I knew.

I chose her and…

I’d choose her all over again.

Bruno 🐾

A Little Note From Claire ❤️

One of the things I love most about Pawtraits is hearing where a dog fits into the family.

Not just where they sleep, who feeds them or who takes them for walks, but all those little things that belong specifically to them.

Bruno’s family told me that when they come home, he howls to welcome them – It’s his thing.

So when Bruno came back to see me and greeted me with a howl, I thought it was super cute; then his family said something that made it rather special.dog excited for mum coming home

“He doesn’t do that for anyone else. Only us.” ❤️

This is why I spend so much time getting to know my Little Legends before I photograph them.

By the time they come through my door, I don’t want them to feel like a dog I’ve never met before. I’ve already heard their stories, learnt their funny little ways and begun to understand the relationships that make up their world.

Sometimes, apparently, they remember me too. 🐾

I don’t just want to know what Bruno looks like.

I want to know who he is, what makes him unmistakably him, and the place he holds in his family. ❤️
