Winnie’s Story

The first time my Mummy saw me, I wasn’t looking my best; I was only about six or seven months old. I was full of worms, I hardly had any fur and I’d already had rather more life experience than a little dog probably should, but I still had plenty of personality…

Obviously! 🐾

Mummy saw me through the rescue and couldn’t bear to let me go, she didn’t – she brought me home.

Dogs had always been part of Mummy’s family, and somehow, I very quickly worked out that this was where I was supposed to be too, and once I’d got that sorted, I could concentrate on the important business of being Winnie

I’ve got big eyes, a big personality and quite a lot to say for myself!  I’m playful, I love kisses and I have been known to suddenly tear around the place doing zoomies for no particularly sensible reason.

Sometimes there’s jumping.
Sometimes there’s hopping.
Sometimes everyone just has to stand back and let Winnie happen. 😂

I’ve got my family organised too. Daddy is very good for playing with; we can have a proper rough and tumble together and I know exactly how to get him involved

Mummy? Well Mummy is for cuddles you know those proper squashy ones. I’m soft and cuddly and I know how to make the most of it. Sometimes being tucked up with Mummy like a little hot water bottle is exactly where I need to be.

A big job of mine is to take a keen interest in everyone’s whereabouts. If Mummy comes home without giving me the appropriate level of notification, I’ll have a good sniff just to establish exactly where she’s been – I mean someone has to keep track of these things.

I suppose Mummy could have looked at me that first day and seen the worms, the missing fur and everything that had happened before she found me, but that’s not what she saw.

She saw Winnie.

She couldn’t bear to leave me behind, so she gave me somewhere I could be safe, loved, ridiculous, playful, cuddly and completely myself.

I wasn’t brought home to be the rescue dog.

I was brought home to be Winnie. ❤️

Love,

Winnie 🐾

A Little Note From Claire ❤️

Where Winnie came from will always be part of her story, but it isn’t the thing that defines her.

What I loved hearing about was who she became once she knew she belonged. The kisses, the zoomies, those enormous eyes, her rough and tumble with Dad, the squashy cuddles with Mum and all the completely bonkers bits that make her unmistakably Winnie.

That’s one of the reasons my Discovery Calls matter so much to me. I don’t just want to know the name of the dog I’m going to photograph. I want to understand who I’m about to meet and the place they hold in their family.

Because those little details are so often the ones that make you look at a portrait and think…

That’s SO my baby. ❤️
