Shelby’s Story

I’m Shelby, Shelbs if you’re Claire but officially, Shelby. 🐾

Mummy and Daddy had just moved from London when I arrived about a month later – excellent timing I thought, and I settled straight into the important role of being their girl.

I’m a Golden Retriever, so naturally I’m loving, friendly and generally delighted by life. I’ve got plenty of energy, but I’m also extremely accomplished at doing absolutely nothing – it’s all about balance.🧘‍♀️

One of my favourite positions involves sprawling out with my back legs behind me and Daddy calls this:

“Take me like a French girl.”

I think you’ll agree, I bring a certain sophistication to the family. 😂

I’ve always been quite independent too. Even when I was little, I’d happily wander off and do my own thing, although I do like to keep an eye on everybody. When I was younger, if Daddy and I were out walking and Mummy went off in another direction, I’d run over to check she was okay – honestly someone has to keep these hoomans organised.

But I should probably tell you something important.

I’m Daddy’s girl. ❤️

Everyone loves me, of course, but Daddy and me?

We have a thing.

I know where he is, he knows where I am and I’m fairly certain he thinks I’m the best dog that’s ever existed and do you know what he’s right.

So, there isn’t some enormous story about why I came into their lives, nobody needed rescuing, there wasn’t a grand plan. Mummy and Daddy moved from London and a month later, they got me; and then we became us.

Walks, sprawling, playing, checking up on everybody, making them laugh and generally being an extremely important member of the household.

That’s my story.

I’m Shelby.

Their girl. Daddy’s girl and an absolute legend. ❤️

A Little Note From Claire ❤️

I love that there isn’t a big reason behind Shelby’s story- there doesn’t need to be one.

She arrived about a month after Mum and Dad moved from London and simply became part of their life. Their girl, Daddy’s girl; the one who sprawls across the floor, keeps an eye on everybody and apparently believes “Take me like a French girl” is a perfectly reasonable position for a Golden Retriever. 😂

That’s something I think is really important about Pawtraits.  Your dog doesn’t need an extraordinary story for me to want to hear about them.

Sometimes the story is simply the life you’ve built together. The walks, the ridiculous habits, the things you say to them, the family jokes and all those completely ordinary moments that somehow become your things.

You adore them.

That’s the story. ❤️

When I get to know all those little details before they come through my door, I start to understand exactly who I’m about to meet.

In Shelby’s case?

A little legend who absolutely knows she’s loved and wanted.
